Mark & Clarerose Mascarenhas

Dear Renee, Chris, Jonathan, Raquel, and family, We offer you are deepest condolences on the loss of your loving mother, Joan. She was a wonderful woman of faith, and a dear friend to us, often including us in her dinner parties where we would enjoy her delicious food and partake of the hilarity and conviviality that pervaded the room, wherever she was. Her sense of civic duty, and her pursuit of knowledge about her community and how to improve it extended to a number of areas, from the ailing state of downtown, to the seniors care petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario that she spearheaded. Her founding and running of Friends in Grief, a non-profit that continues today in providing solace to those in need, has left an everlasting legacy. Modest as she was about her many accomplishments, she had a twinkle in her eye when she was reminded at her 80th birthday celebration that she was in the first batch of airline attendants for Air India when they went international with jet aircraft many years ago. Travel and experiencing other cultures was one of Joan’s passions and she fondly remembered places she lived in such as Switzerland, Kenya, Montreal, St Thomas, and finally Hamilton where she was for well over 35 years. She even had the tenacious courage in the autumn of her years to trek to Machu Pichu in Peru. What an inspiring example to all of us of a live well lived and she did all this while being a wife, a mother of five children, and a grandmother. May the Good Shepherd guide and protect you and comfort you in your time of grief and may her Soul Rest in Peace. Mark, Clarerose, Samantha, Tanya and Zach, and baby Liam.
