The Sisters of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, (Hamilton) are deeply saddened to announce the death of Sister Martina Dirito at St. Joseph’s Convent on Friday, November 30 , 2018 in her 67th year as a Sister of St. Joseph. She was the daughter of the late Francesco Dirito and Gaetana Genovese. She was predeceased by brother, Anthony Dirito and her sisters Carmela Gamble, Josephine Hacking and Frances Premack. She will be remembered with love by her sister, Claire Kostyshyn and her husband Stephen, and her sister-in- law Pearl Dirito. She will be remembered with fond memories and missed by her many nieces and nephews and by the members of her religious community, the sisters of St. Joseph. For 37 years Sister was a dedicated and caring teacher. She never let illness stand in the way of living a full life. Her deep faith, her courage and her sense of humour impacted both students and colleagues. In 2013 she received a Festitalia Citizen of the Year Award for her contribution to Education and her Mentorship. Upon retirement from teaching she continued to remain active keeping in touch with both students and colleagues. In recent years she was an active member of the Hamilton residence. The Sisters of St. Joseph will welcome family and friends at St. Joseph’s Residence, Hamilton on Friday December 7, 2018 from 2:15-4:30pm and 6:30-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Residence, Hamilton. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, for the works of the Community would be appreciated.
