O’Connor, Marion (nee Minnes)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marion on February 14, 2020 at St. Peter’s Hospital in her 81st year. Loving wife of the late Charles(1978). Loving mother of Bill(Cathy), Karen Marcotte(Paul), Linda(Vlad), and Susan Pettit(Andrew). Loving grandma of Linda(Doug), Laura, Charles(Georgia), Kevin(Kathleen), Ian, Eric, Bradley, Thomas, Mark, Turner, Erin, and Megan. Loving great-grandmother of Theodore, Arizona, and Timothy. She was an avid gardener and will be greatly missed by her friends and family. A special thanks to the staff on St. Peter’s Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care and kindness. Visitation will be held at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, 2745 N Ridge Trail, Oakville on Friday February 21, 2020 from 12-1pm. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1pm. Private Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Assistance Program.
Marion was the adopted daughter of Jean and William Minnes. Her dad died when she was young and was raised by her mother in Hamilton.
She graduated Teacher’s College and taught in West Hamilton until she married Charles O’Connor and had four children. Work for Charles moved them to St Catharines, Ontario with the young family, then they moved to Carlisle Ontario in 1973.
She was widowed at 39 years of age and lovingly raised and supported the 4 children through University. As the kids grew older and started families of their own, she began her career as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal in Hamilton.
In 2018, Marion moved to Kingston, to be with her daughter Linda but got sick shortly after the move. As Marion became bedridden she moved back to Hamilton
Marion loved to travel, spend time in her garden and if it was raining she would bake cookies and cakes. She continued a family tradition of weekly Sunday night roast beef dinners which brought the family together. She was a fixture in her Hamilton West Mountain Neighborhood where she lived for over 30 years. She got to know the neighbours as she would be out walking her dogs stopping for a friendly chat along the way, She played host on her front patio where her neighbours would be welcome to stop, chat and have coffee,
Marion was most proud of her 4 children, 12 grandchildren and her 3 great-grandchildren.
She kept everyone up to date on family news. No matter where her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren were living, Marion was the one who kept them all close and in each other’s hearts and thoughts.
