VARGUS, John ‘Johnny’
Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Leah for 60 years. Loving father of Susan Vidakovic (Steve), Pat Martindale (Steve) and Liz Hachmann (Jerry). Cherished grandfather of Peter, Robert (Emma), Matthew (Astrid) and Sam. Brother of Ann Kachmar and brother-in-law of Elizabeth Palinkas. He will be missed by his niece and nephews. Predeceased by daughter Teresa, parents John and Anna and sister Helen. Johnny was a devoted family man with boundless energy, always ready to help. He enjoyed sharing his love of history and his Slovak heritage. He will be remembered for his big personality delivering Sunshine Bread in the early years. He was a proud employee of Procter and Gamble for 30 years, a founding member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church. Devoted friend to Father Fuzy. He was a third degree Knight of Columbus. Special thanks to Dr. Ann Boyle and the 5th and 6th floor staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital Juravinski Tower for their kindness, compassion and care. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave., on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Vigil prayers will be said at 3:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Stoney Creek on Saturday, January 28 at 10 am. Interment at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, Mud Street, Stoney Creek.
