Obituary

MORRIS, Liam
(1940-2019)

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 7, 2019. Loving husband to Gay for 47 years. Beloved father of Conor, Niall, Aideen (John), and Sheila (Alan). Cherished grandfather of his 5 grandchildren. Liam was born in Galway, Ireland, and immigrated to Canada in 1971. He was a committed teacher for 30 years with the HWCDSB, and a dedicated member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He will be fondly remembered as a scholar and a gentleman. Special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Centre and St. Joseph’s Villa for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home (7 East Ave. S.) on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Parish (260 Herkimer St.) on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul would be appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.dermodys.com

Goodnight, sweet prince. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Mr. Morris was our teacher supervisor when I played rugby at St. Mary's from 1994-1996. His passion for the game was obvious and this was imparted on our entire team at each and every practice and game. I know that my life long love for this sport is due in no small part to Mr. Morris' influence. My thoughts and prayers are with the Morris family during this difficult time.

Mr. Morris was my favorite teacher and the one I thought about the most over the years. He gave me a life long appreciation and understanding of Shakespeare; of writing; of English literature. I often compared him to John Keating of Dead Poet's Society. I was happy to learn of his connection to the Dominicans at the funeral. I wish I had known that during the short time I knew him. God bless you Mr. Morris. I know you'll be counted among His Saints. "Great stuff."

I met Liam at the Villa, where my mother is also a resident. One of the highlights of my visits, was chatting with Liam. He was always kind and a pleasure to chat with. His character shone out of him....... a true gentleman. His presence will be sadly missed. I offer my sincere condolences to this wonderful man's family. May he rest in peace.

Fond memories of Liam from UGC & Salthill. His ever present wit was a tonic as well as his sincerity. He will be greatly missed by his many friends in Galway. My condolences Gay & family at this sad time. Gabrielle Kyne.
